EWG Projects
Projects of the Energy Working Group
Our first project was to gain community support for our Utility to procure more wind power. We established our goal to sign up 1000 customers for a new wind power program. Between our personal sign-ups and the online effort as of Dec. 10th, 2008, more than 500 customers had responded with their committments avoiding more than 3 million pounds of CO2 per year.
Citizens are continuing to sign up for this clean energy program through our on-line form or by calling Colorado Springs Utilities @ 448-4800.
Our future projects may follow our present explorations into :
Applying to the Department of Energy and FHA to be included in the Power Saver Pilot Program, an FHA insured second mortgage for energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy projects on single family homes. Permanent funding mechanisms for renewable energy. Conservation kits for retail and fundraising. Improvement of local building Codes to reduce the impact of our built world on our natural world. A Fee & Dividend approach to local EE and RE efforts. An energy challenge for school kids to reduce their energy use.
