How much wind power would you like to buy ?
One block equals 100 kWhr/month (the typical home uses about 600 kWhrs per month)
Each block would increase your monthly bill by $3.65

One Block (100 kWhr per month)
Two Blocks (200 kWhr per month)
Three Blocks (300 kWhr per month)
Four Blocks (400 kWhr per month)
Five Blocks (500 kWhr per month)
  100% of my monthly use

In the spirit of competition, would you like your decision to buy clean energy to be credited toward any of these groups .

Express yourself ! Take this brief survey about energy issues
I would sign up for 100% wind power if my rate for energy supply was determined for the next 20 years.
If I were to sign up for 100% wind power I do not wish to pay for costs related to coal.
I would like more choices in my energy and other programs.
I would like for my utility to be the cleanest in the nation.

Wind Power

PROBLEM:
Few activities have caused environmental degration more than the energy we use.  Locally, at least 72% of our electric power comes from burning coal.  In the process, the following are emitted from our power plants ( in pounds per year ):

Sulpher     130,300,000
Arsenic              4,800
Barium            700,000
Chlorine            70,000
Chromium          70,000
Cobalt                2,500
Copper             28,000
Fluoride           115,000
Lead                  3,500
Manganese        64,000
Mercury                  59
Molybdenum        1,800

Nickel                          8,700
Selenium                        950
Zinc                           15,500
Vanadium                  34,000

CO2               6,500,000,000
Nitric oxides 28,000,000,000

   Yup, 34.5 billion pounds of
 greenhouse gases each year

Solution:     Conservation and cleaner sources of energy.
Nationally, it is estimated that 30% of the energy we use is actually wasted.  They means you are paying for 30% more energy than you get a benefit from.  Check out our lengthy list of energy and resources savings tips

Major Offshore Wind Initiative

Salazar, Chu Announce Major Offshore Wind Initiatives February 7, 2011 Unveiling a coordinated strategic plan to accelerate the development of offshore wind energy, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu today announced major steps forward in support of offshore wind energy in the United States, including new funding opportunities for up to $50.5 million for projects that support offshore wind energy deployment and several high priority wind energy areas in the mid-Atlantic that will spur rapid, responsible development of this abundant renewable resource. Deployment of clean, renewable offshore wind energy will help meet the President's goal of generating 80% of the nation's electricity from clean energy sources by 2035. "The mid-Atlantic wind energy areas are a key part of our 'Smart from the Start' program for expediting appropriate commercial-scale wind energy development in America's waters," Secretary Salazar said. "Through the Strategic Work Plan, the United States is synchronizing new research and development initiatives with more efficient, forward-thinking planning so that we can help quickly stand up an American offshore wind industry. This initiative will spur the type of innovation that will help us create new jobs, build a clean energy future, and compete and win in the technologies of the 21st century." Full story
