Local Food Coalition Group
More than 70 food leaders – from farmers and urban growers to restaurateurs and retailers – gathered last year at Pikes Peak Community College to launch a process of creating a Food Future Plan for the region. Our vision is to transform this community from one that relies on the global food system for survival to one where we feed ourselves. There is plenty to do!
Local Food Coalition
Welcome to the Local Food Coalition website! This Coalition started as the Local Food Working Group in February 2009 as part of the Green Cities Coalition overall mission to support healthy and sustainable communities.
It is the mission of the Local Food Coalition to expand access to locally grown food through education and collaboration. Our current projects include developing an El Paso County Food Security Plan (i.e. Local Food Ambassadors, Village Shift Project) and outreach at the Colorado Farm & Art Market on Wednesday afternoons.
Goals & Priorities
Our goal is getting all local foodies and related organizations at the same table every month to identify common initiatives and areas of collaboration. We are also recruiting Local Food Ambassadors to represent and serve the various neighborhoods (“Villages”) across the region. Click here to see the Villages we have mapped so far.
If you wish to participate in the Local Food Coalition, please contact Megan Andreozzi.
